Bitcoin Anarchist Shot Dead

A bitcoiner and an anarchist going by the name of John Galton (pictured above) has been shot dead in the Mexican resort of Acapulco.

“A woman describing herself as John’s partner, Lily, said via social media that she saw the gunmen go straight for John and his friend Jason Henza, 43. Henza made it to a private hospital with bullet wounds in an armpit, leg and hand. The hospital said he checked out that same day. Mexican police found equipment to process drugs, glass pipes and marijuana plants at the home,” says the Associated Press.

Who committed the crime or why remains unclear, but the US citizen had previously stated in 2016 that he and his partner, later identified as Lily Forester, fled drug charges in the U.S., with both facing up to 25 years in prison for manufacture of a controlled substance – specifically, condensing marijuana into powerful extracts – that Forester used for chronic pain.

There’s no U.S. federal court records for drug charges under the name John Galton, suggesting this may have been a pseudonym from Atlas Shrugged with the birth name unknown at this stage.

The American couple gained income in Mexico by selling glass drug pipes that Forester blew into shape with the couple at times organizing seminars on how to make money from cryptos.

They hosted weekly “Meat Ups” at a local restaurant where self-professed carnivores dined only on meat and  were busy recruiting speakers for an anarchist conference set to take place in Acapulco later in February.

“There’s pockets of freedom all over the world,” Galton said in a video. “There’s so much that’s more free about where we live here.”

AP says “Lily did not respond to request for comment via social media on Saturday. Henza declined to comment. A U.S. Department of State official said the Bureau of Consular Affairs was aware of an investigation into the death of a U.S. citizen in Acapulco, but that it couldn’t provide additional information due to privacy considerations.”

Mexico saw a record number of murders in 2017 with 29,158 homicides recorded and remains a hotbed for Mexican drug trafficking rings who play a major role in the flow of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana transiting between Latin America and the United States.

There is rampant corruption with USA’s neighbor being one of the most dangerous country for journalists, leading to campaigns in the press and demonstrations highlighting the supposed ‘impunity’ of those responsible for murdering investigative journalists.

What happened in Acapulco is currently not clear. As an anarchist, Galton may have been an early bitcoin adopter, but Forester says the gunmen went straight for Galton and his friend. Suggesting this perhaps wasn’t an attempted theft gone wrong.

It may have had something to do with the ongoing drug war, but as it stands there is almost nothing known about this murder in Mexico.
