Binance KYC Hacked, 25 Bitcoin Reward Offered

The personally identifiable data of 10,000 Binance users appears to have been hacked, with one of the biggest crypto exchange stating:

“We would like to inform you that an unidentified individual has threatened and harassed us, demanding 300 BTC in exchange for withholding 10,000 photos that bear similarity to Binance KYC data.”

They however say “there are inconsistencies when comparing this data to the data in our system” and that “no evidence has been supplied that indicates any KYC images have been obtained from Binance, as these images do not contain the digital watermark imprinted by our system.”

Nonetheless they say the data appears to be dated from February of 2018 when they had “contracted a third-party vendor for KYC verification.”

They do not name the third party, but they claim some of the data has been shared publicly and with media outlets presumably to prove they do actually have them.

Trustnodes has not been reached out with any such data, but the above image – showing mainly Asian individuals holding ID and their Binance account number – was shared on Reddit, with us then blurring it for added measure.

Binance says they are cooperating with law enforcement and offer a reward of 25 BTC “if you are able to provide any information to help identify this person and allow us to pursue the individual through legal action.”
