30 Brands and Thousands of Stores to Accept Bitcoin

France is going bitcoin with thousands of stores, including 30 prominent French brands like Boulanger, Foot Locker, Decathlon, Conforama, Maison du Monde, Intersport, Cultura, Norauto and Sephora, to start accepting bitcoin in 2020.

That’s through a payment solution by East2Play which runs the EasyWallet app developed in partnership with Global POS.

“The usual operation will not be impacted since the exchange platforms will be in charge of the conversion of cryptocurrencies into euro,” a press release said according to Le Figaro, a French daily.

Apparently 3% to 6% of French people own cryptos with the stores able to choose instant fiat conversion of crypto payments to address price volatility.

“Initially, the service we offer will only allow the use of bitcoins, but our goal is to open our solution to other cryptocurrencies in the future,” says Stephane Djiane, CEO and founder of Global POS.

The EasyWallet website has the ethereum logo on it, but for now it looks like only bitcoin payments are on offer.

Apparently the new French law called Pact Act, which has generally been seen as very friendly towards cryptos, has allowed French businesses to feel more comfortable in accepting bitcoin payments with one of them stating according to a rough translation:

“We are happy to be able to make this ecosystem more concrete for consumers and enter the crypto-economy in a legal framework,” promoted by the enactment of the Pact law.

Considering the scale of participation (25,000 stores), it looks like bitcoin might be going mainstream in France with other cryptos perhaps to follow.
