Pundi X Fosters Crypto Donations for Earthquake-Stricken Lombok

Those who wish to help earthquake victims on Lombok in Indonesia can contribute crypto funds with the help of blockchain firm Pundi X.

The crypto payments company Pundi X will enable digital currency donations for the disaster-stricken Indonesian island of Lombok in a partnership with the Kopernik local non-governmental organization (NGO), the startup said in a Medium post on Tuesday.

In an effort to support Lombok residents who have gone through a series of earthquakes in the past month, Kopernik has started a campaign to raise a total of $42,227, which will be used to deliver 500 shelter kits to two villages on the island – Sembalun Lawang and Sembalun Bumbung. The NGO has secured nearly $30,000 so far, and is partnering with Pundi X to help raise the remainder of the money.

Pundi X, based in Indonesia as well, has made it possible for crypto users to donate BTCBCHETH, as well as the company’s own NPXS. The donation process works in the following way: the contributors send crypto funds to the addresses given on Kopernik’s website and then Pundi X carries out a buyback based on the total amount of NXPS tokens raised in the campaign. The company will later on remove these NXPS tokens from circulation.

The support in crypto will complement the payments via credit card, PayPal and bank transfer that Kopernik has received since the launch of the campaign on August 5.

August 5 was also the date of the main 7.0 shock in the series of earthquakes. As recently as August 24, seismologists were still registering aftershocks as strong as 5.7. The death toll so far is estimated at over 550 and the humanitarian disaster following the earthquake is growing, as hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes and are in need of basic necessities such as running water, tents and blankets.
