Former Estonian PM Joins Blockchain Startup as Chairman of Supervisory Board

Former Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas joined blockchain-oriented startup Lympo as head of the supervisory board. Rõivas, who is currently a member of parliament, is one of the politicians who has greatly contributed to the country’s evolution to one of the most digitally advanced societies in the world.

Lympo is a blockchain-based sport and health ecosystem that relies on user-controlled data. The ecosystem comprises three main pillars: the Lympo fitness wallet, a marketplace, and the crowdfunding platform.

The former Prime Minister twitted that he was excited to become the leading advisor of the blockchain startup.

He said in a statement:

“Lympo’s mission is one that I can easily relate to. I ran my first marathon because of a challenge and have been a passionate runner ever since. I have seen many startups and know well that the key to success is to have a great team. Lympo’s team is one of the most inspiring, and I am certain that Lympo has huge potential.”

Rõivas served as Prime Minister between 2014 and 2016, during which Estonia’s e-residency programme was launched. Under the program, anyone in the world can apply for a government-issued digital ID that provides full access to the country’s public e-services. With the help of the secure digital IDs, Estonians have easy access to medical records and can register companies on the Internet from anywhere in the world.

Ada Jonuse, CEO and co-founder of Lympo, commented:

“We are thrilled to welcome Taavi Rõivas on board as the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Lympo. His position as a figurehead in the political and tech world will help share Lympo’s vision on how blockchain and data can help transform the fitness and healthy lifestyle industry.”

Estonia is one of the most blockchain-friendly nations in the region. Earlier, current Prime Minister Juri Ratas announced that the government might embrace a national cryptocurrency called Estcoin. However, probably because of pressure from the European Union, a government representative had to stress that Estonia had no intention to issue a national cryptocurrency to be used in parallel with the Euro.
