Crypto Exchange HBUS Taps Ex-PwC, Intuit Executive as Compliance Officer

HBUS, the official American partner of Huobi, has become the latest crypto company to hire a former high-ranking official from the traditional financial services sector, after Gemini and Binance. In a blog post on Thursday, HBUS said that Megan Monroe-Coleman, an ex-PwC and Intuit executive, had joined the company as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO).

Monroe-Coleman worked at multinational auditing and accounting firm PwC for nearly eight years until July 2016. She was compliance manager at the PricewaterhouseCoopers Los Angeles and San Francisco’s offices. Monroe-Coleman designed and executed audit programs to understand how PwC clients followed US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulatory rules, HBUS CEO Frank Fu explained in a post.

After PwC, the new HBUS CCO worked for financial software giant Intuit for more than two years. Firstly, she was CCO at Intuit’s web-based financial management service Mint, which currently has more than 20 million clients. At Mint, Monroe-Coleman was involved in executing real-time anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) procedures for the firm’s pay bill product.

“Responsible for all aspects of Mint product compliance including PCI, state licensing and examinations, AML under the BSA, UDAAP and Privacy. Major accomplishments in this role include the successful implementation of bill pay in Mint compliant with all State and Federal regulations and creating a culture of compliance across Mint,” Monroe-Coleman explained at her LinkedIn account.

After that, Monroe-Coleman became MTL Compliance Officer at Mint’s owner, Intuit, and oversaw regulatory compliance for the company’s money movement products for seven months until August this year.

Commented the new CCO HBUS boss Fu said:

“Megan is an experienced product compliance specialist with a proven track record of designing and implementing compliance programs for FinTech and Financial Services companies in the US […] Bringing Megan onto the team is a crucial step in the next chapter of HBUS’s progress as a regulated financial institution.”

Started in July, HBUS offers trading in four markets, Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), and TrueUSD (TUSD). The exchange clocked $1.65 million in trading volume for the last day from twenty-two crypto-to-crypto pairs.
