Tron [TRX]’s Justin Sun provides more insight on Project Atlas

The entire Tron community was patiently waiting for more details pertaining to Project Atlas ever since Justin Sun, the Founder and CEO of Tron Foundation made the announcement of the project. On 30th August, Justin Sun finally announced more details on Project Atlas.

BitTorrent has been one of the biggest acquisition in the cryptocurrency space so far with even Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin [BTC] and Charles Hoskinson, the Founder of Cardano [ADA] talking about the biggest Torrent platform.

Project Atlas is the integration of Tron and BitTorrent. The main agenda of the Foundation is to extend the rewards to peers who seed torrents infusing more resources into the Tron ecosystem. The integration will also add on to the global payment and settlement of online content.

Although, based on the recent post of BitTorrent, the company had a fall out of around 5 employees after it was acquired by Tron. However, the company stated that it has witnessed a massive growth since the acquisition and that 16 new employees have joined the team.

To which, Justin Sun said during the TVM launch:

“After the BitTorrent acquisition, we have identified a strong work ethic that embodies the spirit of the technology and the innovation. Since the end of June, 16 outstanding colleagues have joined us. Half of them are former engineers at Facebook, Google, Tencent, Alibaba, Airbnb and other top internet companies. They will work on Project Atlas.”

This was followed by the Founder announcing the official launch of Project Atlas web portal. The portal has all the information pertaining to Project Atlas.

Furthermore, Justin spoke about Satoshi Nakamoto’s perspective of BitTorrent use case. The creator of Bitcoin had mentioned BitTorrent as an example on his Bitcoin P2P e-cash paper mailing list dated 2nd November 2008. Satoshi’s idea is also presented on the Project Atlas web portal. It says:

“For transferable proof of work tokens to have value, they must have monetary value. To have monetary value, they must be transferred within a very large network – for example a file trading network akin to BitTorrent”

Project Atlas will connect the BitTorrent peer to peer network and the Tron blockchain network. This will happen with the use of a set of BitTorrent protocol extensions. Justin adds that a custom token and an inclined token will address the existing limitation. This, in turn, will open a new economy for exchanging value for resources on a global scale.

The project is set to have more seed in the future. According to the IEEE study of BitTorrent, like peer-to-peer systems, Torrents will be available within the first month.

Moreover, Project Atlas will enable users to earn tokens for uploading, thereby incentivizing them to continue seeding the file even after the completion of the download. Along with this, storage and boundaries will be infused into the Torrent ecosystem which would increase the availability and life swarm of the Torrent.

The peers of BitTorrent would offer tokens in oder to incentivize the users to run clients, faster networks and seed torrents for longer periods. This would result in better swarms longevity, faster download speed for all swarm participants.

However, there is no mining involved in the Project. This means that users will have to participate with each other on the basis of resources provided to them.

Justin Sun said:

“The Tron blockchain is safeguarded by the  dedicated proof of stake system along side of the project atlas token economy.”

He further adds that the BitTorrent protocol extensions will have developing options. This would enable the clients of Project Atlas to be fully backwards compatible with all the BitTorrent clients like, uTorrent, BitTorrent and more.
