Nano releases weekly update, ensures node operators to resolve issues with the v16 release

On 17th September, Nano, a digital currency, posted its weekly update on Twitter, outlining the difficulties the platform faced with Nano v16 and the steps taken to solve it. Nano stated:

“In today’s weekly update, we take a look at some of the issues users are facing with $Nano node version 16 and the steps being taken to resolve them.”

Ever since the release of v16, complaints have been raised by node operators within the Nano network with regard to the existence of multiple unchecked blocks. The Nano team also noticed that several exchange platforms, services, and node operators had problems with keeping their nodes in sync as a result of which, these bodies had to backport to Nano’s version 15.2.

According to Nano, the development team has been working on resolving the above issues. The Nano team has confirmed that their immediate plan of action would be to either release v15.3 or Version 16.1 with the hope of resolving the issue. Version 15.3 will comprise of Version 15.2 with voting by hash rate added to the release.

Nano further stated that they wish to increase the number of nodes on their beta network effectively generating the ideal testing environment. By creating this testing environment, the developers will be able to reproduce the Mainnet and pinpoint possible issues before it actually reaches the Mainnet. Troy Retzer, the Communications and Public Relations lead of Nano on the official Medium blog stated:

“I’d like to thank everyone who reported the issues they faced with v16.”

A Reddit user named Pwlk, commented:

“Good update. Thanks for the transparency. Even though it is not all unicorns and rainbows, the stream of public facing weekly updates is so nice to see. Keep up the good work.”

Another Reddit user named Rathega added:

“To replicate conditions on the mainnet, would it be better to run some nodes with older node software? Currently on beta.nano.org it only goes back to 15.2. Does it make sense publishing older node software or dockerising older nodes?”

To which another Redditor named SeveralIf, replied saying:

“It would make sense, but currently the node software for the beta network de-peers nodes that don’t have the same protocol version. The protocol version was increased in v16 and the official nodes still run v16rc2, meaning that v16 nodes will not peer with most beta network nodes. Before that, the protocol version was increased in v15.x something.”
