IOTA [MIOTA] partners with Ledger to offer state-of-the-art security in their Trinity and Romeo wallets

IOTA [MIOTA], the distributed ledger technology [DLT] network set to be utilized for the Internet of Things [IoT], recently announced a partnership with Ledger, a hardware wallet service provider. The aim of the partnership was to integrate IOTA tokens into the latter’s wallet services, offering users with a high-level of security that is said to be unmatched.

The wallet will store the private keys from IOTA’s Trinity and Romeo wallets, allowing users to transact their IOTA tokens with maximum security. The security on the Ledger wallet comes from their distinctive operating system known as BOLOS and an EAL5+ certified secure chip. This is exponentially more secure than mainstream chips and is the same one used for credit cards and passports. More than providing security through discrete hardware, hardware wallets provide an additional layer of security by not being tied to a computer or a phone. This protects it from attacks that are usually prevalent with those devices.

Eric Larchevêque, the CEO of Ledger, stated on the partnership:

“Providing the highest level of security and quality is a major focus at both Ledger and IOTA. The collaboration between the teams created an immediate synergy concentrated on developing a compatibility feature allowing users to access, store and manage IOTA tokens on Ledger devices.”

The move will also allow users to transact directly on the IOTA ledger, offering ease of access for users who wish to transact with the cryptocurrency. The IOTA application is now available in the Ledger Live manager.

David Sønstebø, co-chair and co-founder of IOTA Foundation, stated:

“At IOTA, we made a commitment to delivering the safest and most usable standalone cryptocurrency wallet. The Trinity wallet is well on its way to fulfilling that commitment, and today we are proud to announce the next step on the journey. Ledger has earned a strong reputation for security and reliability, and this made it a natural choice for integration with Trinity. We are proud of how our community, the IOTA developers and the Ledger team have worked together to make this possible.”
