IOTA [MIOTA] and ENGIE Lab Crigen shake hands, IoT to receive major support

On 6th September, the IOTA Foundation announced its partnership with ENGIE Lab Crigen, which is a research group and operational expertise center dedicated to gas, new energy sources and emerging technology. The goal of this partnership is to integrate the distributed ledger technology [DLT] into Smart Energy Ecosystem.

According to the official blog of IOTA, earlier this year, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding that established a deal of mutual cooperation between them. The MoU was regarding the experimentation with IOTA’s Tangle in the field of Energy and other IoT [Internet of Things] sectors. Tangle is an open-source distributed ledger created by IOTA to contribute to the development of the Internet of Things.

Furthermore, IOTA’s Data marketplace initiative also received the participation of ENGIE in November 2017, along with other industrial and IT firms. Data marketplace is a product by IOTA where it provides the users with access to unique data for the enhancements of documents, such as reports, analysis and applications. To successfully execute this, IOTA uses several sensors that the users can choose and fetch data from.

Post this initiative, ENGIE Lab found an inclination towards the project and began exploring other use-cases of IOTA Tangle. The collaboration of IOTA and ENGIE are also planning on working in areas other than energy, such as smart cities and buildings, mobility and more. IOTA trusts the Proof-of-Concept system to carry these innovations.

Earlier this week, IOTA wrote a paper titled ‘IOTA Feasibility and Perspectives for Enabling Vehicular Applications’, wherein the applications of Tangle in vehicular applications was discussed. The idea extends to the IoT world where the vehicular industry is visioned to have self-driving cars and so forth, also known as autonomous vehicles.

Recently, another achievement witnessed by IOTA was when a Japanese multinational IT firm announced IOTA as the new protocol standard mentioning product quality as a contributing factor. The company named the initiative ‘Industry 4.0 co-create with Fujitsu’, which was aligned with the purpose of the program.

Moving ahead in technology and applications, IOTA also released the desktop beta version of its Trinity Wallet, extending from the mobile version. At the time of release, IOTA on Twitter wrote that the team has open-sourced the complete codebase of the desktop wallet on Github, welcoming contributions.
