Cardano [ADA]’s Charles Hoskinson speaks with the community; Icarus and Yoroi in focus

On 7th September, the Co-founder of the blockchain science and engineering firm Input Output [IOHK], Charles Hoskinson released another video update on Twitter. Here, Hoskinson provided all the details about the updates of the sub-projects under Cardano, such as Icarus and Yoroi, among others.

In the video, Hoskinson mentioned Icarus, stating that the project is on the right track with a good amount of progress. Furthermore, the newly announced Yoroi wallet will be entering the Testnet mode with the 1.3.1 version of Cardano. Yoroi is a product by Cardano’s venture firm Emurgo and is engineered by IOHK.

About Yoroi, he said that the code has reached production quality and has been security audited. He added that the team is happy with the results that have come out with Icarus and Yoroi. In his words:

“It’s really good Rusk code, it’s really good JavaScript. We’re very happy with what we’ve done with Icarus and what Emurgo has done with Yoroi and they’re starting to build a really good team with that. So we expect that there’s going to be a very short layover between the test net of Yoroi and the mainnet Yoroi. So look for that in the coming month.”

Secondly, the blockchain techie spoke about the expansion of the wallet ecosystem with the entry of Icarus and Yoroi in it. For users who find it difficult to run Daedalus on their systems due to various reasons, Hoskinson suggested the installation of Google Chrome extension that will assist the users with all their requirements. Subsequently, he stated that the users may choose between Icarus, Yoroi and Daedalus as per their preference and convenience.

As for the ledger support, he stated that team has done everything it needs to do but is waiting on a firmware update. He mentioned that Yoroi is to be the first interface to use the ledger.

“There’s already a well-established way of connecting that via the web USB standard to an extension, so we’ll have some discussions with Emurgo and we think it’s probably better on the chrome side to deploy that than it would be necessarily on the Daedalus side. but the crypto is done. […] Cold storage is coming, so you’ll have the cold wallet, you’ll have eventually hardware.”

For 2019, Hoskinson told the community that the Cardano team is currently into deep discussions with Emurgo and Runtime Verification regarding the path to be followed. He also stated that there are two parallel tracks in this roadmap. One of them revolves around the Ethereum side, such as IELE, while the other side is the UTXO [unspent transaction output].
