US Bitcoin Bomb Threatening Emails Demand $20000 in Crypto

History has a lot of cases that indicate the illegal use of Bitcoin. However, one of the latest is the case of Canada and the U.S. Officials reported yesterday that the individuals and businesses are receiving the ‘threatening emails’ which allegedly demands the payment in Bitcoin.

Ottawa police reported Thursday, December 13, 2018, that they received 10 plus cases belong to email for bomb threats. At present, the legal watchdogs in Gatineau and Ottawa are investigating the emails and advising people not to respond to the demands. Moreover, they are supporting such recipients of the emails through 613-236-1222 ext. 7300 number or asking them to report online. They can also get support by using Ottawa police App or anyone can help with the solution or a tip by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

(Ottawa) – This afternoon, the Ottawa Police has responded to multiple calls for service (10+) about bomb threats made via e-mail to local business and individuals in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, where the sender is demanding a bit coin payment.

However, nothing is confirmed yet and the police said ‘all threats have been deemed unfounded’.Moreover, the police went on twitter, intending to reach a large audience to caution about the threat. It says;

The unfounded e-mail threat to local business and individuals is demanding a bit coin payment.

If you have been the recipient of such an e-mail threat, please do not respond to the bit coin demand.

Additionally, a copy of threat email is shared on by Krebs on Security, a researcher which notes the payment of $20000 in Bitcoin. The researcher noted that;

“I could see this spam campaign being extremely disruptive in the short run,” continuing “There is little doubt that some businesses receiving this extortion email will treat it as a credible threat.”
