ConsenSys Organizes Blockchain Training & Hackathon in Lebanon

New York-based blockchain firm ConsenSys announced that it would hold a five-day blockchain event in Lebanon starting with October 17. The event will include a blockchain training program of three days, and a two-day hackathon. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basic concepts of blockchain and the distributed ledger technology (DLT) and understand its applications and features. The training will go in-depth as well so that participants could learn how to build a development environment, create decentralized applications (dApps) based on Ethereum smart contracts, and integrate them with web apps.

Marc Ziade, director of ConsenSys business operations and strategy, reportedly said:

“Lebanon has always adopted an entrepreneurial approach in dealing with challenges; and the startup ecosystem has been growing in the recent years. There are a lot of developers and entrepreneurs looking for some expert guidance and direction.” “The ConsenSys Blockchain Developer Bootcamp is designed to address Lebanon’s many issues such as the energy shortage and the refugee situation,” Ziade, who leads the Lebanon bootcamp, noted.

Asim Janjua, director of ConsenSys MENA (the Middle East and North Africa Region), said that the company showed increased interest in finding talent and innovation in the Middle East and that the upcoming event was proving it.

“We look forward to working closely with our partners in Lebanon to find this next generation of brilliant minds and help define the many use cases in this country that could benefit from blockchain technology,” he added.

At the event, 25% of the seats will be reserved for refugees. ConsenSys is working with Techfugees and other non-profits in this regard. Moreover, students will pay $250 while professionals will spend $450 to take part in the training.

ConsenSys is keen to expand its business beyond its North American and European offices. Last month, the company said that it would reach Israel via a new subsidiary called ConsenSys Israel.
