Bank-like services on the blockchain are not new - Ripple, PolkaDot and BlockNet utilize cross-chain interoperability. Yet none of these architectures are truly blockchain agnostic. WanChain seeks to go beyond these earlier entrants, and wants to revolutionize the banking and fintech industry the same way the Internet Protocol (IP) and the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) did for for the Internet and the Intranet before it. A big ask indeed!

Hero, on the other hand, wants to shake up the credit lending industry in South East Asia, arguing that “banking the unbanked” is possible with the advent of blockchain technology. For the Hero ICO, secured credit can only be achieved through the age old practice of pawn brokering. Multiple identity thresholds in the region coupled with informal pay structures and “off-the-grid” living put disadvantaged peoples outside of the traditional credit lending system.

Both ICOs want to solve the problem - specifically “banking the unbanked”. Can the WanChain ICO survive despite the loss of its Chinese market? Is WanChain merely an abstraction? Or is WanChain just another obtuse artifice with no inherent value? Does the Hero ICO really care about disadvantaged peoples? Or are they the sum interest of the marketing department? Join Coin Bloq as Charles interrogates these themes and asks: “Should you give either of these ICOs your money?”
