Iran Formally Permits Bitcoin Mining: Trading Ban Still On

Although Tehran recognised the mining industry formally in 2018, problems arising due to power consumption has persisted and has now led to a crackdown on operations which has reportedly caused resourceful miners to move into mosques where there is free power to continue their businesses.

Also, there have been reports about the authority’s intention to impose a moratorium on mining until new electricity pricing deals have been finalised. This report seem to be true as it details have come to a realisation.

The chairman of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdol Nasser Hemmati said that:

“Mining of the international digital currencies should be done based on the price of electricity for export,”“What’s more important is that these mined currencies should be fed back to the national economic cycle,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Canadian government has made some amendments to the country’s anti-money laundering laws in order to ensure the elimination of digital currency exchange operations in Canada.

Reportedly, the amendments were published to the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act today.

Furthermore, even though the alterations to the financial laws which was completed last month lay emphasis on some suspected breaches within traditional finance, it has also increased the standards required of platforms who use cryptocurrency in there operations which according to the Canadian government includes “digital currency exchange services and value transfer services.”
