Peter McCormack Might Pay Craig Wright More Than £700,000

Peter McCormack shared the details of how Wright’s libel case against him has been developing. He now has to decide on how to act regarding the libel accusation and choose one of the options he has.

Peter McCormack, the host of the “What Bitcoin Did” podcast, revealed details about preparing for his legal battle with Craig Wright and Calvin Ayre. He also requested help from the crypto-community to build “the most vigorous defense possible.”

In a pretty long Twitter thread, McCormack explained every step he will have to pass by through to defend himself from Wright’s accusations.

1/ I have instructed RPC to act of my behalf in my defence against Craig Wright. After reviewing pro-bono offers v the market I have decided it is essential to appoint the best firm possible. RPC is the best and most equipped UK firm to defend in cases of libel. — Dr. Peter McCormack (@PeterMcCormack) May 31, 2019

Just to remind you, in April, Wright filed a libel claim in the UK against McCormack accusing him of causing “serious harm” to Wright’s reputation by repeatedly calling him “Faketoshi” and “a fraud” on Twitter. A lawyer’s services would cost McCormack between 25,000 and 50,000 pounds sterling for merely initial defense. A lawyer for a full trial would cost up to 750,000 pounds.

McCormack wrote:

“This morning we have filed with the court an intention to defend this nonsense lawsuit with the full intention of a crushing victory. While I can cover some of the cost, a solid defence will require a fund, and I am therefore accepting the advice and support of everyone.”

It is obvious that McCormack was in a desperate need but is trying to make things transparent as possible. He said:

“ I will coordinate a call with a trusted group of Bitcoiners to agree on: – Method of raise – Currencies accepted – Management of funds – Audit of funds – Use of any surplus funds As you can expect, I will want this to be as transparent as possible. We will build the most vigorous defence possible and use the full weight of evidence that supports us in this case. I will likely require the support of expert developers, cryptographers and OGs to give evidence in support. Thank you to the many offers already received.”

He also added that he doesn’t believe Craig Wright is Satoshi. Wright’s recent actions, statements and those of Calvin Ayreare, by his words, pointing to a coordinated and sustained attack on Bitcoin. He added:

“Some believe we should be ignoring him; personally, I feel this is dangerous. Bitcoin SV is not Bitcoin.”

It really seems that Wright touched the spot because McCormack really seemed annoyed writing:

“This started as an attack on our brother Holdonaut and has become a broader attack on many. Others have been abused and mistreated in the background. I will not let an Australian and a Canadian use my country to attack Bitcoin. Let’s fucking have it Craig!”

As per time of writing, McCormack announced that he got some help saying:

– Thanks to my sponsors @krakenfx + @TheRealBlockFi + @dropbitapp + @getaurox– Thanks to my top tier patron @RiseWallet– Thank you to Phil Potter for his time– Thanks to everyone who listens, subscribes and shares — Dr. Peter McCormack (@PeterMcCormack) May 31, 2019

“Changpeng Zhao Is a Macro”

Be it as it may, it seems that we can not have a day passing by without the Craig Wright saying something notoriously stupid and making himself even more of a joke than he already is. Last, and we believe not the least, was his accusations of Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance, being a macro.

The BSV founder, while hosting the conference to promote Bitcoin SV, publicly said that Bitcoin was in circulation, only to enable illegal operations. A recorded clip of the incident surfaced on YouTube, in which Wright is heard saying:

“Binance, Bitfinex, and Tether use Bitcoin [BTC] to fund fund illegal operations for pumping money such as illegal money travel, illegal use of people smuggling. Right now, 30% of Binance money funds women in prostitution, 30% of Binance and Tether funds women in slavery.”

McCormack immediately responded with a Tweet and CZ answered:

giving attention is probably what he wants… We ignore stupid stuff, and focus on things that matter. #BUIDL — CZ Binance (@cz_binance) May 31, 2019

The thing that surprises us the most is that Craig Wright is making all of these shocking accusations without a bit of an evidence to back up his story.

Everyone, including McCormack and Roger Ver who was also accused by Wright, have openly dismissed his claims that he’s Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s founder.
