Status Partners with the Core Team Developing the Nim Programming Language

In an attempt to fortify the research efforts for Nimbus, a Nim implementation of a sharing client for Ethereum, the mobile dApp browsing provider company Status.im has teamed up with the brain behind the Nim on August 7, 2018.

Establishing new Roles

This partnership will mutually help both companies to spread their wings in respective sectors by supporting sharding research. The collaboration with Status.im will help the Nim network develop a robust financial backup to stay focused on developing an imperative, multi-paradigm, compiled programming language.

On the other hand, the Nim squad will allocate two dedicated developers who will help the team fix bugs, answer issues, and develop the compiler and standard library combined with its tools. However, Status is leading the sponsorship board on Nim website with a $19,000 per month bond.

In fact, the Status app is nearly analogous to WeChat, a Chinese multi-purpose messaging, social media, and mobile payment app created by Tencent. WeChat is used by more than 500 million people across the globe to send and receive the messages, payments, and applications. Similar to that, Status has also enabled users to communicate, send, and receive payments and run applications within the app. The decentralized Ethereum network is a cherry on top for Status.

Why Nim?

On August 1, 2018 Status, aka status.im, launched Nimbus, a lightweight sharding client, to calibrate the Ethereum protocol and form a better ecosystem for the dApps community. What’s more, BTCManager spoke with the Status team for the selection of Nim over other languages. Chris Hutchinson, a Community Manager at Status.im reported:

“As far as future collaboration or projects; we’re partnering with the Nim team themselves as well as our research project nimbus. The advancement of the language itself will be in close proximity.”

Nim, a lightweight and efficient programming language, allows the team to better learn the Ethereum protocol. In a bid to attract the highly-skilled blockchain developers with a better knowledge and appreciation for the niche language specifications such as powerful meta-programming capabilities that adds flexibility to the app.

Additionally, the Nim language comes with a couple of perks that are designed to make it more convenient for Ethereum developers to integrate. Nevertheless, the most salient feature of the Nim is a trio of prominent programming languages including Python, C and Lisp. The language is as easy to read as Python, as fast as C, and as extensible as Lisp.

Status-Nim is not only an exciting partnership but a good way to support the community. The bond between Nim and Status seems offers a dazzling future as the team is full of experienced developers including Andreas Rumpf, creator of Nim.
